Why 1080p downloads quickly
YouTube already publishes 1080p as H.264 video with AAC audio, the format almost every device plays. We merge the two streams into an MP4 file with fast-start enabled, so the video starts playing before the whole file has loaded. No re-encoding is needed, so the download is quick.
When you get 1080p and when you don't
Only videos uploaded in 1080p can be downloaded in 1080p. If the uploader published in 720p, you get 720p. We cannot add detail the upload does not have.
How to download a 1080p video
- Copy the link.
- Paste it into the box above and choose the Video tab.
- Select 1080p and press Download.
1080p or 720p?
- Choose 1080p for a laptop, a TV or any screen larger than a phone.
- Choose 720p for a phone on mobile data, or to save space.
Playing the file
- Windows: Windows Media Player, VLC.
- Mac: QuickTime, VLC.
- iPhone and iPad: Files app.
- Android: Gallery and most players.
Limits
- Files up to 500 MB. Most 1080p videos are under this, but very long ones may not be.
- Live streams: a 30-second clip is saved.
- Files are deleted from our server after 1 hour.
